A Certified Translator with ATIM and OTTIAQ, Jamie's love affair with the French language began at the age of five as a French Immersion student in balmy Winnipeg, Manitoba. A passion for music and a keen interest in languages led him to pursue degrees in opera performance at Brandon University and the University of British Columbia.
Upon completing his Master of Music degree, Jamie joined l'Opéra de Montréal's Atelier Lyrique as their resident tenor, singing opera on tour from Rouyn-Noranda to Moncton. Two years and countless high Cs later, Jamie had become a fervent admirer of Canada's vibrant French-language communities.
As his singing career took him across the country, Jamie's interest in cross-cultural communication grew. He enrolled in a French translation course at York University's Glendon College, and a week later he knew he had discovered his second passion.
After graduating on the dean's honour roll with a BA in Translation, Jamie began freelancing as a translator while continuing to perform with Canada's leading opera companies and musical ensembles. After several years successfully juggling two careers, he founded Gaston Murdock, focusing on translation services for the arts, social sciences, and public administration.
